Beyond Data: How Business Storytelling Skills Transformed a Multinational’s Leaders

“The entire group discovered their unique storytelling voices, using their own experiences to put across their teachable points of view in a way that resonated deeply with their audiences.”

A multinational pharmaceutical company reached out to us. Their Country Manager had a clear concern: his direct reports — most of whom were leaders — were proficient in delivering facts and data but struggled to translate them into something more meaningful.

They were not alone. Across industries, leaders, finance teams, marketers, and those who engage with external stakeholders often find themselves locked into presentations filled with numbers, reports, and dates. The result? Information is shared, but little is truly felt or understood.

Their L&D lead, who had worked with us before, recognised that our new programme — The Business Storyteller™ Advanced — was the perfect solution. The group included professionals from different functions: finance, marketing, new hire orientation teams, those who engage directly with caregivers, and those who represent the company externally.

From the start, the group self-identified as ‘non-natural’ storytellers — a common belief among business professionals. However, the truth is that every leader has lived stories drawn from experience. The key is seeing those stories as vehicles to put across their teachable point of view — a core concept in leadership storytelling.

By the end of Day 1, these leaders understood how differently they could come across when structuring their presentations using techniques from our The Business Storyteller™ Advanced programme. Instead of simply delivering data, they began using stories to make their insights land with impact. Then came another game-changer: AI. Rather than replacing storytelling, AI became a tool that elicited their stories, helping them to refine and adapt them for different audiences. Some turned to ChatGPT, others to CoPilot, guided by carefully designed prompting techniques introduced by the trainer.

From Numbers to Narrative, From Facts to Feeling

By Day 2, the transformation was undeniable.

  • Those presenting to caregivers learned to frame their messages in a way that showed they truly understood what caregivers go through — bridging the gap between medical expertise and human emotion.
  • Finance leaders found ways to turn numbers into narratives with meaning, helping stakeholders to see beyond spreadsheets.
  • Those who represent the company — instead of listing data and corporate milestones — began crafting stories that brought out the humanity of their organisation.
  • The entire group discovered their unique storytelling voices, using their own experiences to put across their teachable points of view in a way that resonated deeply with their audiences.

This is what business storytelling is truly about — turning information into impact and data into dialogue.
